FAQs

  • Bathtubs historically have been made of porcelain, (or metal, if you’re counting old-style washtubs.) Nowadays, top-of-the-line bathtubs are made of composites like acrylic for their greater durability and chip-resistance.

  • Acrylic is much lighter, and simultaneously more durable than porcelain. Acrylic is easier to install and replace, and it’s also a lot warmer to the touch. While it is not as scratch resistant as porcelain, acrylic is not as brittle. Where porcelain will chip and crack, acrylic will continue looking smooth and functional for years to come.

  • This entirely depends on your bathroom. A few considerations: Drop-in tubs can be more space sensitive if your bathroom is smaller. Freestanding tubs are more versatile in that they come in a variety of shapes and styles, can be moved anywhere for the best access to light or visuals, and can be used in conjunction with side tables to create a spa-like experience.

  • All of Whitewaters drop-in tubs are slip resistant, right out of the box. For our freestanding tubs (meant for laying, not standing and showering) if slipping is a concern, you may want to install handles or other entry/exit assistance. For additional solutions, you can look at anti-slip coatings, rubber mats, or non-abrasive tape.
